The Tuscan Maremma produces wines of great depth thanks to the characteristics of its land: favorable climate, proximity to the sea, the mountains and the hills, with winters that are not too cold and summers that are never too hot.

Maremma (and the Tuscany region in general) is unanimously recognized as a land of great wines, in the area you can find reds, whites, raisins, rosés, vinsanti and bubbles. The first winegrowers and consumers of the Maremma were the ancient Etruscans, and later the Romans, who continued in the tradition started by their illustrious predecessors. The Maremma vines are today the authentic pivots on which the economy and thefood and wine tourism of the area(also known as the term of enotourism) rotate. In the Tuscan Maremma, wines such as San-giovese (red, here called Morellino), white Trebbiano, Sicilian Ansonica, Greco and Verdello from Umbria and even Alicante, brought by the Aragonese in the 17th century, prevail. The Maremma Livornese, along the Etruscan Coast, has 5 DOCs: Terratico di Bibbona, Montescudaio, Bolgheri (homeland of Sassicaia and Ornellaia), Val di Cornia, Elba Island.

Maremma Grossetana has 1 DOCG: Morellino di Scansano – 7 DOC: Rosso di Sovana, Bianco di Pitigliano, Costa Ansonica dell’Argentario, Capalbio, Parrina di Orbetello, Monteregio di Massa Marittima and Montecucco – 2 IGT: Maremma Toscana and the Toscano or Tuscany. Maremma Laziale also offers great wines, even if the white grape varieties prevail – Trebbiano, Malvasia, Bellone, Bombino, Verdicchio – flanked by Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Cesanese reds, which give life to the wide DOC Colli Etruschi Viterbesi, the DOC Trquinia and the DOC Cerveteri.
